HOW IT HAPPENED

SET ONE

  • Emerson jumped out to a 10-6 lead to begin the first frame and were able to maintain the five point advantage at 13-8 thanks to a bad set by Simmons.
  • Simmons answered and erased Emerson's five-point lead with a 4-0 run as the score sat at 13-12 on a Lions attack miscue. Simmons kept pace with the hosts and stayed within a pair at 18-16, but the Lions broke away with the set's final seven of nine points.
  • A kill by Maynez iced the set and handed Emerson the 25-18 first set win.

SET TWO

  • Simmons snagged their first lead of the game at 5-4 and kept the game evened at 6-all behind a kill from Alex Spencer. Emerson gained the four-point lead at 11-7 with the set's five of six points.
  • The Sharks continued to keep pace with the Lions and squared the set at 14-all before they gained the 18-16 lead.
  • Emerson shot down Simmons' hopes of a comeback and responded with a lengthy 5-0 run and held the 21-18 lead going into the final portion of the frame.
  • A pair of kills from Jayla Parnell and Conners followed by a Lions attack mishap, Simmons closed the gap to one at 23-22. Emerson sealed the stanza on a Shark's serving error and kill by Chu to take the tight 25-22 win.

SET THREE

  • Simmons put themselves on top to start off the third and held the 6-4 edge, but not long before Emerson fired back and rang off a 6-1 run to reclaim the 12-9 advantage.
  • A two-point deficit for the Shark turned into a 19-16 lead for the visitors. Seven kills, two service aces and a Lions attack miscue allowed the Blue & Yellow to gain their biggest lead of the match.
  • The Purple & Gold wasted no time and used a trio of kills alongside four Simmons errors to ignite an 8-1 spurt that propelled them to the 24-20 edge.
  • A Lions attack error gave Simmons a glimmer of hope and put the Sharks down three at 24-21, but Bond sent down the game-clinching kill as the hosts took the set, 25-21.

HOW IT HAPPENED

SET ONE

  • Through a majority of the first set, Emerson and Manhattaville kept pace with one another as the Lions were able to keep the Valiants within two. The last time Emerson kept their two-point lead was at 18-16.
  • Down 20-19, Emerson managed to grab two points back to regain the 21-20 edge. Manhattanville, however, wrapped their opening frame win with a 5-0 spurt to claim the 25-21 win.

SET TWO

  • After Emerson grabbed a lead of three at 8-5 on a swing from Chu, Manhattanville quickly responded and rang off a 6-0 run to jump ahead 11-8. The Lions continued to threaten the Valiants' lead of three and were able to claim nine of the next twelve points to push ahead, 17-15.
  • The two teams used the remaining portion of the second to exchange scores with the lead never going over one. A kill by Figueroa locked the game at 28-all for Manhattanville, but it was Emerson who put momentum in their corner with the set's final pair of points to take the 30-28 victory.

SET THREE

  • The Lions went to work in the third and held the Valiants to a .167 hit percentage, while the hosts racked up a hit percentage of .308 to run away with the frame.
  • After Emerson began with a 6-1 run, Manhattanville erased their deficit and moved the score to 8-5. A three-point margin was the closes the Valiants would come to the Lions.
  • A seven-point streak propelled Emerson to a double-figures lead of 16-5 and kept on rolling.
  • Manhattanville got a trio of points on a pair of Emerson attack errors and a kill to pull within single digits at 20-11.
  • Nine was the closest Manhattanviille would come as Emerson snagged the last three points for the 25-13 win and went up two sets to one.

SET FOUR

  • Momentum swung in Emerson's direction once again as the Lions jumped out to a quick 5-1 lead over Manhattanville. The Valiants sparked a 4-0 run to lock the score at 5-5 and were able to stay within one at 7-6.
  • With the score at 7-6, Emerson powered together and strung together a 10-1 run to once again extend their lead into double digits at 17-7.
  • Manhattanville exchanged points to round out the fourth, but the Valiants were never able to get rhythm as Emerson used two swings from Combs to send down the visitors, 25-15, and take the match, 3-1.
