Women’s Basketball Falls To Coast Guard For First Conference Loss

The Lead: The Emerson Women's Basketball team dropped their first conference game on Saturday to the Coast Guard Bears, despite 20 points from Rachel Davey (Saratoga, Calif.).

  • Coast Guard jumped out to an early lead in the first quarter, connecting on two straight three pointers.  The Lions scored the next thirteen points, taking a 13-6 lead with just over five minutes remaining in the first frame.  The Bears chipped away to cut the lead, but Emerson went into the second quarter with a two point lead at 19-17.
  • Davey connected on a three pointer to open up the second quarter, extending Emerson's lead to five.  The Lions held their five point lead for the first half of the frame, until the Bears closed out the quarter on a 13-2 run, taking a six point lead into the half at 36-30.
  • Within the first three minutes of the third quarter, the Bears extending their lead to twelve on a Riis-Fallica three pointer at 44-32. Emerson went on a 12-1 run from here, cutting the lead to one with four minutes remaining in the third.  The teams traded baskets with Coast Guard scoring at the buzzer to extend their lead to four into the fourth quarter.
  • Davey connected on another three pointer with seven minutes remaining in the third quarter to give Emerson their first lead of the second half at 63-61.  Coast Guard went on an 11-2 run from here, taking a seven point lead back.  Emerson was unable to overcome the deficit and fell to the Bears, 79-70 in regulation. 



The Lions return to take on the Babson Beavers at 7:00pm on Wednesday.
