BOSTON, Mass. - Fresh off a dominating season opening win last Thursday night, the Emerson women's basketball team hits its home hardwood for the first time of 2018-19 in a non-conference matinee with its cross Commons neighbor Suffolk at 1:00 p.m. 

 

OPENING NIGHT SUCCESS 

  • Emerson ventured over to Gordon to face the Fighting Scots in its season opener for the second consecutive year last Thursday night and came out with a commanding 71-42 win. 
  • The win saw four different Lions register double figure showings including sophomore Ashley Toner (Barnegat, N.J.), junior Natalie Clydesdale (Pittsburgh, Penn.) and seniors Natalie Busch (Weybridge, England) and Charlie Boyle (Scotts Valley, Calif.). 
  • Busch filled up her stat line with a team-best 15 points and four steals as Boyle followed with 14 and both Clydesdale and Toner put up 13, a career high for Toner. 

 

LAST YEAR AT THE TIP OFF TOURNAMENT 

  • Last season's annual Tip-Off Tournament back on November 18-19 saw the Lions fall in both contests to Middlebury and Ave Maria. 
  • Busch represented Emerson on the All-Tournament team. 

 

SCOUTING THE RAMS 

  • The neighboring Suffolk travels across the Commons tomorrow afternoon holding a 0-1 record after shouldering a season opening 66-58 loss to Western New England last Saturday. 
  • Suffolk pieced together a 2017-18 for the books as the Rams posted an overall record of 21-7 and a 12-5 record in the GNAC, which earned them a trip to the GNAC Tournament only to be topped by Saint Joseph's (Me.) in the championship game. 
  • Key returners to the Rams' lineup include the reigning GNAC Rookie of the Year in Jenni Rose DiCecco and Alexis Hackett, who earned GNAC Third Team All-Conference nods after pulling a down a league best 8.6 defensive boards. 
  • DiCecco currently leads the Suffolk offense with 22 points to go with five helpers and two steals with Hackett right behind with 13 points and two blocks, while DiCecco and Jordan Hipwell each have pulled down five boards. 
  • Emerson and Suffolk met at Reagan Gymnasium last year on December 12, 2017 with the hosts taking the 74-67 win. 

 

SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS 

  • Saturday brings the first meeting between Dean and Emerson as the Bulldogs will be one game into its season come this weekend. 
  • The Bulldogs open its 2018-19 campaign with a meeting against NEWMAC foe, Smith, on Thursday night under second year coach Alycia Gervais. 
  • Dean was pegged in the fifth spot of the NECC Coaches' Preseason Poll after a 2017-18 season that saw the Bulldogs earn a share of the NECC Championship with an overall record of 17-10 and 14-2 in NECC play. 
  • 2017-18 ended for Dean in a USCAA Tournament Consolation round 65-58 setback to St. Mary Woods. 
  • Key returners to the Bulldogs lineup this upcoming year include the 2017-18 NECC Defensive Player of the Year in Jamaya Cleveland, who averaged 5.2 points per game along with 3.0 boards and 2.5 takeaways. 
  • Another vital piece to Dean's lineup is Iindia Pina, who returns after putting up an average of 8.6 points per game and 5.6 rebounds.
