Softball Falls In First Home Doubleheader to WPI


Game 1 Score: WPI 7, Emerson 2

The Lead: The Emerson softball team suffered a pair of losses to the WPI ENgineers on Saturday, falling 7-2 in Game one and 14-0 in game two.

GAME ONE: WPI 7, Emerson 2



Lindsey Lowe - Double, SB, 1 Run

Lexi Semanchik - Triple, One RBI

Karagan Knowles - Single, SB, 1 Run 

Pitching: Neely Eddleston (L - 0-3)) - 4.0 IP,  six hits, six runs, & two walks

Myranda Bourque - 3.0 IP, 2 hits, 1 run, 2 walks, & 1 strikeout


Eight Players had one hit

Kaitlin Hess - 1 Hit, 1 Run, 2RBI

Marissa Gonzales - Double, 1 RBI

Lauren Meinhold - Double, 1 RBI

Pitching: Meinhold - 4.0 IP, four hits, two runs & two strikeouts


Top 1st:  WPI took control in the game early, with the first batter, MArissa Gonzales reaching base by getting hit by a pitch.  After reaching second, Gonzales came home on an error by the Lions.  HEss' single brought home two more runs to give WPI a 3-0 lead.  WPI added two more runs on an Alicia Salvalzo single to take a 5-0 lead after the top inning of the first frame.

Bottom 3rd: Emerson scored their first run in the third inning, with Karagan Knowles  (Tucson, Ariz) reaching first with a single.  Lexi Semanchik (Flemington, N.J.) came to the plate two batters later and drove home Knowles with a triple to center field, cutting the Engineers lead to four at 5-1.

4th inning: WPI restored their five run lead in the top of the fourth frame, on a GOnzales double to right field that drove home Leila Camplese.  Emerson fought back with Lindsey Lowe (Porter Ranch, Calif.)  stealing home on a passed ball in the bottom of the inning, taking the lead back down to four.

Top 7th: Jocelyn Diaz drove home Meinhold with a single to restore the Engineers five run lead once again, with the Lions unable to overcome the deficit in the final frame, falling 7-2.

Game 2: WPI 14, Emerson 0

Lauren Meinhold - 3 Hits, 2 Walks, 3 Run, 2 RBI

Nicole Logrecco - 3 Hits, 1 Walk, 2 Runs, 2 RBI

Pitching: Katie Martin (W, 2-1) - 5 Hits, 1 Walk, 12 Strikeouts


Top 3rd: The score remained at zero for both teams until the top of the third, when Meinhold drove in the first run with a bases loaded walk.  Logrecco doubled home HEss and Gonzales to give WPI a 3-0 lead, before Diaz drove home Meinhold to give the Engineers a 4-0 lead.

Top 5th: Two innings later, Meinhold drove in another run with Hess scoring on her double to left field.  The Engineers added two more runs through a Diaz sacrifice fly and Logrecco coming home on a passed ball.

Top 7th: The Engineers loaded the bases with no outs, and Diaz drove home three more runs with a bases clearing double, giving the Engineers a 10-0 lead.  WPI added four more runs in the inning, taking a 14-0 lead which the Lions did not make a dent in, falling 14-0. 


Emerson plays a doubleheader next saturday in Babson Park, Mass. against the Babson Beavers with the first game slated for 11:00am.
