Softball Drops Pair Of Games To No. 3 Linfield and Transylvania

The Lead: The Emerson Softball Team dropped two games in their opening day of action at the NFCA Softball Classic in Arizona.  The Lions lost 5-3 to No. 3 Linfeid and fell 7-3 to Transylvania on Friday.

Game 1: Linfield 5, Emerson 3

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Emerson took the lead in the top half of the first inning when Mary Kuczkowski drove the ball through the left side of the infield with the bases loaded to send home Lexi Semanchik.
  • Lindsey Lowe doubled following KUczkowski, driving home Calli Pratt and Mallory Shofi to give Emerson a 3-0 lead after the firs thalf of the first frame.
  • The score stayed the same until the bottom of the third when Katie Phillips tripoled to bring home Wilkinson.  Phillips later scored to bring the Lions lead down to one at 3-2.
  • Baily Paul tripled in the bottom of the fifth for Linfield to drive in two runs and give the Wildcats a 403 lead.  The Wildcats tacked on an insurance run to give the NO. 3 ranked team the lead for good at 5-3.

Game 2: Transylvania 7, Emerson 3

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Hynes first hit of the ball game drove in the first run for Transylvania in the top of the first inning.  The Transys added three more runs in the top of the third, with a Hynes groundout giving the Kentucky school a 4-0 lead.
  • Rebekah Czukoski doubles in the bottom of the third frame to get the Lions in the board by driving in Dix.
  • After the Transys added two more runs in the top of the fourth, a Dix double saw home Kuczkowski and Pratt to gcut the lead to 6-3.
  • Emerson was unable to overcome the deficit, falling eventually 7-3 to Transylvania.
