Gray's Double-Double Leads Men's Volleyball Past Dean

The Lead: Taking on the Dean Bulldogs for the second time this season, the Emerson Lions Men's Volleyball Team earned a victory over the Bulldogs on Tuesday night.  The Lions earned the season sweep behind 10 kills from Parker Gray and Samuel Willinger.

  • After both teams traded points to start the match to be tied at 3-3, Emerson went on a 10-1 run behind the serve of Jerick Lou (Richmond Hill,Canada), who earned four service aces in the run.  Dean scored two straight points, but Emerson continued to control the set, bringing their lead to 13 on a Parker Gray (Los Angeles, Calif.) service ace at 20-7.  Dean made a small run, but Emerson held on to take the set 25-15, with the last point coming on a Matt Connolly (Haverhill, Mass.) service ace.  
  • Emerson carried their momentum into the second set, winning the first five points behind the server of Samuel Willinger (Golden Beach, Fla.).  The Lions held their five point lead, and eventually extended the lead to 11 at 20-9.  Emerson closed out the set 25-12, taking a 2-0 lead in the match.
  • Dean jumped out to a smalls advantage in the third set, leading by six at 11-5 after 16 points were scored.  Emerson closed the gap, cutting the lead to one at 21-20.  The Lions held onto there one point deficit, but eventually fell in the set 25-23.  Emerson led 2-1 after three sets.
  • The Lions found their groove again the fourth set , jumping out to a 10-6 lead early.  Dean cut the lead to two at 10-8, but Emerson went on a 7-1 run to take a 17-9 lead, and followed it up with a 5-1 run, taking a commanding 22-10 lead. The Lions closed out the Bulldogs in the fourth set 25-12, taking a 3-1 match victory and earning a sweep of the Bulldogs.
