HOW IT HAPPENED
- The first set was a back and forth affair, with both teams holding small leads throughout th first 20 points. After being knotted at 10, the Engineers went on a 6-0 run behind two service aces from Allen. MIT held a five point lead until t5he Lions scored three straight points behind kills from Gray and WIllinger. Cutting the lead to two at 19-17. MIT closed out the set behind a 4-0 run, taking the first seed 25-19.
- Emerson jumped out to an early lead in the second set, behind four straight points from the serve of Matt Connolly, taking a 5-1 lead on the Engineers. The Engineers cut the lead to one twice, but Emerson held their lead throughout the first half of the set. MIT tied the score at 12, and the teams traded points until the score was knotted at 16. From here, the Engineers rattled off 9 of 10 points to take the second set 25-17.
- The third set started off even, with both teams splitting the first ten points. The Engineers rattled off a 10-1 run, taking a 15-6 lead. The Engineers held off a final push from the Lions, taking the third set 25-16 and the match 3-0.
