LOOK BACK AT LAST WEEK

  • Emerson earned a pair of sweeps in back-to-back non-conference games against the Eastern Nazarene Lions and the York College (NY) Cardinals. They defeated the Newbury College Nighthawks on Tuesday in a sweep before welcoming the two teams to the Brown & Plofker Gym. 
  • Mark Piorkowski (Montclair. N.J.)  continued his strong start to the season, totaling 39 kills over the three matches.  Piorkowski is averaging 4.63 kills per set and has a .282 hitting percentage in six matches this year.

LIONS IN THE GNAC

  • Piorkowski currently leads the GNCA in kills per set with his 4.63. He also leads the conference in service aces per set with 1.11. No other player has more than one.
  • Jacob DiTore (Salem, N.H.) sits at number two in the conference with 3.32 digs per set.
  • Lucas Raagas (Cambridge, Mass.) and Josh Elliot (Swedesboro, N.J.) sit at nine and ten respectively in the assist per set category. Raagas has 4.84 per set and Elliot comes in just behind at 4.72.

SCOUTING THE LASERS

  • Lasell enters the match with a 3-6 record and 0-1 in the GNAC, falling to Wentworth in conference 3-2.
  • Last year, Emerson and Lasell split their two meetings, with Emerson sweeping the Lasers at home, and taking them to five sets away.
  • The Lasers have three players who have over forty kills on the year.  Jordan Aprea leads all players with 49 kills.  Scott Sterenberg and Conor Leary Watson are close behind with 43 and 41 kills respectively.
  • Andy Henriquez is the leading passer for Lasell, with 163 assists on the season.  He averages 5.2 per set.

SCOUTING THE NIGHTHAWKS

  • Newbury enters the match with a 2-7 record, but are 1-0 in the NECC.
  • Emerson defeated the Nighthawks in straight sets at their home court a week and a half ago on Tuesday, February 5th.
  • Rory Dobbins leads all Nighthawks with 90 kills on the season.  He averages 3.10 per set.
  • Jeremias Soto is the lead passer, with 119 assists on the season, good for 4.10 per set.
  • The libero, Geral Rivera-Miranda, leads the team with 90 digs on the season.
