The Lead: Jarred Houston (Norwood, Mass.) scored 21 points and Trevor McLean (Boston, Mass.) scored 19 as the pair of sophomores combined for 40 points in Emerson's 102-76 victory over Wheaton (Mass.) on Wednesday night, securing the season sweep for Emerson.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Emerson jumped out to a six point lead early, opening the game on an 11-5 run with scoring from four different Lions.  From here, Emerson went on a 14-4 run, taking a commanding 16 point lead with just over ten minutes remaining in the first half, wit the run capped off by a Max Davis (Oakland, Calif.) three pointer.  The Lions maintained their lead throughout the first half, extending it to 23 on a Zach Waterhouse (Hampton, N.H.) three pointer, and eventually went into halftime leading by 18, 45-27.
  • Emerson and Wheaton traded baskets for the first four minutes of the second half, with Emerson holding onto their 18 point lead.  Wheaton cut the lead to sixteen, before McLean connected on a three pointer to bring the lead back to 19 for the Lions with 14 minutes remaining. 
  • Three minutes later, Wheaton cut the lead to 14, and McLean connected on another three pointer to bring the lead back to 17 before a Holding jumper extended the lead to 19, forcing Wheaton into a timeout with 10 minutes remaining.  
  • The Lions extended their lead to 28 on a Jack O'Connor layup with just over five minutes remaining, and maintained the lead throughout the remainder of the game.  Emerson defeated Wheaton 102-75, completing the season sweep of the NEWMAC school.
