The Lead: The Emerson Men's Basketball team welcomed the No. 14 Amherst Mammoths to the Brown & Plofker Gym on Saturday afternoon, falling by 11 points 97-86 despite a 29 point performance from sophomore Nate Martin (Washington, DC).

  • The teams opened upt he game trading buckets, knotting the score at 4 early.  A five point run by Martin himself gave the Lions a quick five point lead at 9-4 with just over 15 minutes remaining in the half.  Amherst went on a seven point run by themselves that put them ahead by one, but the Lions and Mammoths found themselves knotted at 14 halfway through the frame.  Emerson went on an 11-4 run from this point, opening up a 7 point lead on a Ben Allen (Hampton, N.H.) layup.  Emerson kept their lead between four and six for motst of the half, before the Mammoths went on a 9-4 run to end the half, with the Lions holding onto a one point lead at the end of the frame.
  • Amherst opened un the second half on a 15-4 run, opening up an 11 point lead behind consistent free throw shooting in the opening minutes.  Emerson cut the lead to five behind the sharpshooting of Waterhouse, who connected on a three pointer and two free throws.  Amherst opened up their biggest lead of the gaem at 16 on a Robinson three pointer with eight minutes remaining, and held a lead throughout the remainder of the half.


  • Emerson gets back in action on Tuesday against the Lesley Lynx in an 8:00pm game, when they welcome them to the Brown & Plofker Gym for their final game of 2019.
