WATERTOWN, Mass. – The Emerson Women's Tennis Team moved to 3-1 on the year Monday afternoon after posting a dominant 8-1 win over Wentworth. In the win, the Lions won nearly every set in the outing as Wentworth falls to 3-4.
Doubles was all Emerson on the day as Lacey Russell and Savannah Mosser barely blinked in the top spot with an 8-1 win over Caitlin Corcoran and Virginia Ofer. Next up saw Natalie Nicholas and Sara Chaffee pull in with an 82 win before Jana Winfield and Alanna Grady closed it out with an 8-3 win at three.
Singles painted a similar story as Savannah Mosser made quick work of Deborah Massaro with a perfect 6-0, 6-0 blanking in the two spot. Natalie Nicholas nearly matched her at three with a 6-2, 6-0 win before Jana Winfield collected a 6-2, 6-2 win at four.
Lacey Russell saw a bit more competition in the one spot against Caitlin Corcoran, but prevailed in the end as the Russell came out dominant in the first set with a 6-0 win, but had to battle to a tie break win in the second 7-6 (7-4). In the last matches of the day, Alanna Grady toppled Nicole McColgan at five 6-4, 2-6, 10-7 before the sold Leopard point of the day came in the six spot.
The Lions will host the Mount Ida Mustangs this Friday as EC jumps back into GNAC action.
