Women's Tennis Cool Under Pressure In 5-4 Win Over Suffolk

WATERFORD, Mass. – The 2012 Emerson Women's Tennis Team kicked-off their season Saturday which saw the Lions battle off GNAC foe, Suffolk, in a 5-4 win. The Lions nearly swept doubles action as they move to 1-0 overall and 1-0 in conference play while Suffolk drops to 0-1 on the year and 0-1 in the GNAC.

Doubles action saw the Lions come out swinging as the 2011 All-GNAC Doubles Team of Lacey Russell and Savannah Mosser made quick work of Kelly Conrad and Erica LeBlanc in an 8-0 sweep. Their fellow Lions Alicia Pellegrin and Natalie Nicolas pulled in next with an 8-3 win to jump out to a 2-0 lead.

With the Rams taking the last doubles point, singles opened up in similar fashion for the Lions as Lacey Russell and Savannah Mosser took the one and two spots and dominated with 6-0, 6-1 sweeps each.

The Rams surged back though as they snaked off with three wins in singles in the three, five and six spots to make it a nail-biting 4-4 match. Sophomore Natalie Nicholas was cool under fire though in the four spot as her dominant 6-0, 6-3 win clinched the W for the Lions.

The Lions hit the courts again this week as they travel to Clark (Mass.) this Wednesday, September 12 for a 5 p.m. match.
