The Lead: Emerson grabbed a victory against the Sage Gators, propelled by a fast start. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Emerson jumped out to an early lead through Veronica Albers (Half Moon Bay, Calif.) Alberts tallied her first goal of the year just 8:40 into the game, giving Emerson the lead.
  • Paige Haley (San Diego, Calif.) made her way onto the scoresheet in the second half, when she slotted home a pass from Grace Cosgrove (Sherman Oaks, Calif.) to give Emerson the 2-0 lead with 22 minutes remaining.
  • Sage found the back of the net through Hallie Klosterman (Modena, N.Y.), who converted a penalty kick for her first goal in her collegiate career. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Sophia Giordano (Alamo, Calif.) made four saves and earned the victory, propelling her to 2-0 on the year.
  • Sage outshot Emerson 12-10.
  • Emerson had seven corner kicks, all coming in the second half while Sage had two over both halves.
