Lombardo Scores Five As Women's Lacrosse Trounces Mount Ida 20-8

NEWTON, Mass. – Tracie Lombardo went off the chain for five goals Saturday as the Emerson Women's Lacrosse Team closed out their 2013 regular season with a 20-8 offensive showcase over Mount Ida. With the win the Lions improve to 10-6 on the year and 7-2 in conference play as Mount Ida falls to 5-10 overall and 2-7 in the GNAC.

The game was an unreal melee of offense with 28 goals on the day with Emerson's Chelsea Phillips got the party started as usual with a set up from Alex Corrado. The Mustangs answered with a goal, but Kanika Misra and Tracie Lombardo fired up next for back-to-back goals to make it 3-1.

The Mustangs weren't out of it so quickly though as they answered with two goals to tie it before Emerson's Alex Corrado and Tracie Lombardo added another back-to-back goal sequence for the Lions to make it 5-3. MTI's Kaitlyn Affhauser cut the lead to one with another goal before free position goals from Chelsea Phillips and Tayllar Righini helped start to edge EC away 7-4.

Chopping it to 7-5, EC went on a tear afterwards with four straight goals, two from Kanika Misra alone for a 10-5 lead until Molly Sheppard struck again to make it 11-5. Emerson wasn't done though with four more straight goals with two more from Lombardo and one for Righini and Phebe McKelvey to push it to 15-6.

MTI couldn't really hold the line after as they managed to score two more, but Emerson's firepower wasn't to be denied with two goals by Sophia Mitropoulos and one for Mackenzie Johnson, Chelsea Phillips and Maggie Penza to close it out 20-8.

The Lions will now wait for the final shakedown of seedings for the GNAC Tournament which starts next week.
