Women's Lacrosse Posts Season-High 20 Goals In Win Over Anna Maria
PAXTON, Mass. – A season-high 20 goals highlighted the night as the Emerson Women's Lacrosse Team put down a dominant 20-5 win over the Anna Maria AMCATS Thursday night. With the win the Lions improve to 9-6 overall and 6-2 in conference play while Anna Maria falls to 0-11 on the year and 0-8 in the GNAC.
The first half saw the Lions come out on the hunt as they put up 24 shots along in the first 30 minutes of action for an unreal 15 goals. The Lions struck first with Kanika Misra scoring her 12th of the year before ANM took a brief lead 2-1 with two quick goals. EC buckled down quickly though as they scored 14 more goals with five in the half from Chelsea Phillips, three by Alex Corrado, two by Tracie Lombardo and Tayllar Righini, and one by Sophia Mitropoulos.
The Lions were unstoppable in nearly every facet of the game as well in the first half, winning 14 of the 19 draw controls and going 4-for-6 in clears as they rolled into the break up 15-3.
Emerson reigned back a bit more in the second half, putting up only eight shots, but still netting five goals in the process. Anna Maria added two quick goals to open the second half before the Lions settled back in control with another five goals, including the first of the season for Katelyn Gearan as EC cruised to the 20-5 win.
The Lions will wrap up their 2013 regular season this Saturday as they travel to Mount Ida. Game time against the Mustangs is set for 1 p.m. in Newton, Mass.
