Women's Lacrosse Unable To Hold Off Lasell
NEWTON, Mass. – Chelsea Phillips added another four goals on the season as the Emerson Women's Lacrosse Team fell 20-9 to the Lasell Lasers Wednesday night in Newton. With the loss the Lions are now 5-6 on the year and 2-2 in conference play while Lasell improves to 8-2 overall and 5-0 in the GNAC.
The first half saw the Lions surge out for the lead early on as Chelsea Phillips set up Libby Murphy and Tracie Lombardo with back-to-back goals to make it a quick 2-0. Kanika Misra added to the lead for the Lions as she deposited a free position shot to give EC a 3-0 benefit less than five minutes into the game.
The Lasers recouped though as the Ashley Slattery went back-to-back on free position shots to make it 3-2 before Chelsea Phillips added another goal to keep the Lions ahead 4-2. LC threw down another goal to make it 4-3 and chip away, but Phillips answered the call again to make it 5-3 before Lasell went on a four goal run on the Lions to make it 7-5.
A goal by Alex Corrado with 8:33 left in the half cut it to 7-6, but Lasell stepped up to close out the half with two more goals to make it 9-6 headed into the break.
Lasell came out of the half fired up as they added another goal 38 seconds into the half and another a couple minutes later. The Lions kept pushing though as Chelsea Phillips broke the run with a free position goal to make it 11-7. From there EC's defense couldn't hold as LC scored five unanswered goals in the next seven minutes to edge away.
Phillips lit up again for Emerson in with 21 minutes to go with her fourth goal of the day, but the Lasers were ready to answer with two more goals. With 18 minutes of action left Kanika Misra went unassisted to add Emerson's ninth goal of the game. The Lasers were able to add two more before the expiration of the half though to close out the game.
The Lions return to their home pitch on Saturday as they set to host Simmons in GNAC action. Game time is set for 11 a.m. in Boston at Rotch Field.
