Phillips Scores Four As Wellesley Edges Women's Lacrosse
BOSTON, Mass. – Another dominant showcase by Chelsea Phillips with four goals lit up the night as the Emerson Women's Lacrosse Team fell just shy to the Wellesley Blue 10-7 Tuesday night. With the loss the Lions fall to 2-2 on the year while Wellesley improves to 3-1.
The first half saw Wellesley come out strong on the night as they scored four unanswered goals to open the game up before Tayllar Righini dropped her fifth goal of the season in the 14th minute off a pass from Phebe McKelvey. The Lions continued to chip away with Libby Murphy netting a free position shot next to make it 4-2.
The Blue fired back with one more goal before Chelsea Phillips turned it up a notch with back-to-back goals to close out the half with Krystie Zoch and Tayllar Righini setting her up for success as EC headed into break down 5-4.
The second half saw more of the same story though with Wellesley scoring two before the Chelsea Phillips effect set in again with two more unanswered goals to make it 6-5. The Blue pulled away with two more goals though that Tayllar Righini answered with another goal to cut it to 9-7. Wellesley sealed the deal with another goal in the last minute of action to close it out 10-7.
The Lions return to the home pitch on Saturday, March 16 where they'll take on the St. Joe's of Maine Monks at 1 p.m. in Boston at Rotch Field.
