Phillips Dominates As Women's Lacrosse Trounces Misericordia
HILTON HEAD, S.C. – Chelsea Phillips and the Emerson Women's Lacrosse Team shone again Tuesday afternoon as Phillips' seven goals were netted off her 88% shooting accuracy, which led the Lions 15-9 over the Misericordia Cougars in their second game of the season. With the win the Lions are now 2-0 on the year while the Cougars fall to 0-1.
The first half saw the Cougars strike first in the first 90 seconds of action, but the Lions immediately recouped and went on a tear in the half, scoring an unreal seven unanswered goals to leave the Cougs baffled.
Chelsea Phillips and Kystie Zoch led the way for Emerson, putting up two goals each for the Lions. Following suit with a goal each were Alex Corrado, Tayllar Righini and Phebe McKelvey as EC rolled into the break up 7-1.
The Cougars retreated into the break only to emerge with a new plan of attack as they saw Chelsea Phillips and Maggie Sheetz pocket a goal each before firing back with one of their own. From there it was a back-and-fourth battle as the Cougars poured on the offense, scoring eight goals in the half.
EC wasn't done with Misericordia yet though, as they tacked on eight goals of their own to keep the Cougars far out of reach. Chelsea Phillips exploded in the half for five goals on her tab as well while the defense stepped up with Victoria Kanaris posting 11 saves and Phillips and Krystie Zoch combining for 13 ground balls to close out the W.
The Lions will now set their sights on Assumption, who they'll take on Thursday morning in Hilton Head, S.C.
