BOSTON, Mass. – With four Lions going off the chain for three goals apiece Saturday afternoon the Emerson Women's Lacrosse Team put a deluge of offense on the board to top GNAC rival Emmanuel 16-9. The win improves EC to 4-4 overall and 4-2 in the GNAC while Emmanuel drops to 4-7 and 2-5 in the conference.
The first half saw the Lions come out to punish the Saints on offense as they put up 23 shots in the half while pocketing ten. The Lions jumped on the board early taking advantage of a un-saintly yellow card on Emmanuel with Mackenzie Johnson setting up Tracie Lombardo for one of her three on the day. The Lions scored twice more unanswered as well before the Saints finally broke through to make it 3-1.
After that it was a clinic by Emerson with six straight goals to send the Saints praying for a break which came in two goals of their own. The Lions didn't let up though as Tracie Lombardo added some icing to the ten goal half with four seconds left to send Emerson into the break up 10-3.
While the Saints recouped a bit in the second half making the most of their 11 shots with six goals, the Lions matched the offense with six of their own as Kanika Misra, Alex Corrado and Marlee Galper all put the finishing touches on their own hat tricks to finish off the win 16-9.
The lady laxers will return home on Tuesday for a match-up against Anna Maria in more GNAC action with a 6 p.m. start time in Boston at Rotch Field.
