BOSTON, Mass. - Coming off a 2-0 week that saw the Emerson women's basketball pick up its first program win over Babson, the Lions head into its final stretch of 2019 with a pair of NEWMAC showdowns against Springfield and Clark this coming week. The Gray & Purple start the week off at home hosting Springfield on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. before heading off to Clark on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. 


A LOOK BACK ON THE WEEK 

  • A 2-0 week for Emerson moved the Lions' overall record to 13-8 and 7-5 in conference action. 
  • Behind 13 points and 13 rebounds from junior Quinn Madden (Mokena, Ill.), the Lions locked up a 66-52 home win over Babson, marking the first time they have topped the Beavers since 2014. 
  • Saturday's matchup with Coast Guard saw Emerson battle out a 70-66 overtime win over the Bears led by sophomore Sam Boyle's (Scotts Valley, Calif.) 17 points. 


MADDEN NAMED NEWMAC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK 

  • A week full of 20 points and 19 rebounds along with five steals and two blocks across two games for Madden rightfully earned the junior the NEWMAC Women's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week. 

 

LIONS LEADERS

  • Senior Charlie Boyle (Scotts Valley, Calif.) currently shoots a NEWMAC best 57.7% from the field alongside 13.2 points per game (7th), converts 70.2% on the free-throw stripe (8th) and sends down 8 blocks (7th). 
  • S. Boyle and junior Natalie Clydesdale (Pittsburgh, Penn.) sit in the top 10 of NEWMAC three-point shooters with Boyle at 42.6% (4th) and Clydesdale in seventh at 41.3%. 
  • Joining her sister in the field goal percentage is S. Boyle, who comes in the 10th spot shooting 46.2%. 
  • Clydesdale acts as Emerson's leading steal-maker, averaging 1.9 steals per contest, while Madden dishes out 2.7 assists per game. 

 

SCOUTING THE PRIDE 

  • Springfield (14-7, 10-2 NEWMAC) head to Emerson coming off a 53-48 win over Wellesley this past weekend. 
  • Through 21 contests, the Pride can 61.5 points per game shooting 40.0% on the floor while converting 29.0% from the arc and 69.4% on the free throw line. 
  • Springfield and Emerson previously met back on January 26 at Blake Arena where the Pride halted the Lions' fourth quarter comeback with a 52-43 win. 
  • Alex Goslin continues to anchor Springfield in both shooting and defensively as she averages 11.6 points a game making 47.2% of her attempts alongside a 76.4 free-throw percentage and causes 2.0 steals alongside 3.1 assists per game. 
  • Gracie Restituyo matches Goslin with 11.6 points and is the Pride's leader on the glass, pulling down 9.5 rebounds, while Emily Jacques sends down 1.1 blocks a game.
  • Rounding out Springfield's shooting leaders is Chelsea McAllister, who banks 25.6% from the perimeter. 

 

SCOUTING THE COUGARS 

  • Clark (9-12, 5-7 NEWMAC) enters its first and only meeting of 2019 with Emerson having recently picked up a 75-37 win over Mount Holyoke (1/30) and face Coast Guard on Wednesday, whom the Lions most recently topped over the weekend. 
  • The Cougars currently shoot 33.6% from the floor and average 60.8 points with a free-throw percentage of 61.9% and convert 28.3% of its shots from distance. 
  • Emerson and Clark last matched up back on January 31, 2018 at the Kneller Center with the Lions coming away with the 80-64 victory. 
  • Clark's 2017-18 campaign saw the Cougars finish 10-15 overall and 4-12 against NEWMAC opponents. 
  • Ogechi Ezemma puts up a 11.6 points a game while she shoots 40.6% to pace Clark, while proving to be a powerhouse on the defensive side with 10.1 rebounds and blocks an average of 1.8 shots a game.
  • Emily Sifferlen commands the arc at 37.2% alongside snagging 2.1 steals as Sam O' Gara registers 2.1 steals and hands out 4.2 assists.
