BOSTON, Mass. - The Emerson women's basketball team readies for a week full of two NEWMAC games and look to keep its win streak moving with a rematch at Wellesley on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. before returning to its home court on Saturday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. hosting Smith. 

 

TAKING A TRIP TO THE TOP

  • A 2-0 week with NEWMAC opening wins over Wellesley and WPI have pushed Emerson to the top of the conference standings with an overall record of 5-2 and 2-0 record in NEWMAC play. 
  • The Lions opened its conference schedule hosting Wellesley last Wednesday and picked up a 73-56 win over the Blue behind a career-best 21 points from junior Natalie Clydesdale (Pittsburgh, Penn.). 
  • On Saturday afternoon, the Purple took a trip to WPI for its first NEWMAC road test and came away with a commanding 64-37 victory over the Engineers with the help of 13 points by sophomore Sam Boyle (Scotts Valley, Calif.) and 11 contributed from Clydesdale. 

 

REPRESENTING IN THE NEWMAC 

  • Emerson boasts five Lions within the top-10 of conference offensive and defensive categories consisting of S. Boyle, senior Charlie Boyle (Scotts Valley, Calif.), Clydesdale, sophomore Ashley Toner (Barnegat, N.J.) and junior Quinn Madden (Mokena, Ill.). 
  • S. Boyle displays power on both sides of the ball, pulling down 6.6 boards (9th) for 46 total rebounds (9th) while she racks up 11.7 points per game (10th) converting 49.2% from the field (9th) and banking 50.0% behind the arc (3rd). 
  • Clydesdale sits tied in ninth with Boyle in both rebounds per game and total rebounds to go along with a three-point percentage of 44.4% (7th) and 52.5% field goal percentage (7th). 
  • C. Boyle leads Emerson with an average of 12.9 points per game (7th) alongside NEWMAC second best 66.7% from the field. 
  • Rounding out the Lions leaders are Toner, who continues to sit atop of three-point shooting category at 55.0% and Madden, who dishes out 3.9 assists per game (2nd). 

 

SAM BOYLE TABBED LION OF THE WEEK 

  • Boyle played a vital role in helping the Lions to a 2-0 week of NEWMAC opening action and racked up a combined 19 points on 8-of-15 on the floor, 3-of-4 from the three point line to go with 11 boards, five assists, three steals and two blocks. 
  • The sophomore contributed nine total boards, six points, four assists and a pair of steals in the Lions' win over Wellesley and carried her strong play to WPI, where she canned 13 points in the win. 

 

SCOUTING THE BLUE 

  • Wednesday's rematch between Wellesley and Emerson comes exactly one week since the Lions toppled the Blue in a NEWMAC opening 73-56 win at Brown & Plofker. 
  • Wellesley enters tonight's meeting with a record of 4-2 and even 1-1 in NEWMAC play after the Blue picked up a 66-28 over Mount Holyoke over the weekend. 
  • The Blue have racked up 54.8 points through six games on a field goal percentage of 39.9%, 29.5% three-point conversion and 51.4% at the free throw line while they pull down 33.5 rebounds and hand out 13.2 assists. 
  • Caitlin Aguirre paces Wellesley on both end with a team-high 15.3 points per game on a 33.3 percentage from long range while causing 2.8 turnovers and dishing out 3.5 assists. 
  • Alyssa Cho protects the glass for the Blue as she grabs 5.3 rebounds off the glass and sends down .5 blocks per game. 
  • Emily Kopp shots a team best 54.5% from the field and Kendall You Mak co leads alongside Aguirre at 2.8 steals. 

 

SCOUTING THE LASERS 

  • Emerson's only out of conference matchup this week finds them at Lasell, who post a 4-5 overall record after falling 73-54 to Framingham State this past Saturday. 
  • Within nine games, Lasell registers a 32.0% field goal percentage for 56.7 points per game and drain 26.8% of its triple attempts with 37.2 rebounds and 9.9 assists. 
  • 2017 saw the Lasers finish 5-20 with a 3-13 GNAC record as a meeting with Emerson back on February 8, 2018 ended in a 90-51 Lions victory. 
  • Pacing the Laser offense at 14.3 points per game and 2.8 steals is Amanda Ortiz followed by a Lasers leading 40.0 field goal percentage and 39.7% triple percentage from D'Asia Allen. 
  • Lasell boats three different defensive leaders consisting of Imani Bumpus pulling down 4.2 rebounds, Breanna Muir handing out 2.2 assists and Liz Bougie blocking .7 shots. 

 

SCOUTING THE PIONEERS 

  • Emerson's second NEWMAC opponent, Smith, enters Saturday's contest with a mirroring 5-2 record and 1-1 in NEWMAC action after a 86-62 win over Babson on Saturday. 
  • The Pioneers take on Clark on Wednesday night before this weekend's meeting. 
  • Smith averages 69.0 points per game with 40.5% of its shots banked beyond the perimeter and 65.6% coming from the charity stripe to match 12.9 assists and 42.6 rebounds. 
  • In 2017, the Pioneers took their season all the way to the NEWMAC Quarterfinals where they were topped by MIT to wrap the campaign at 20-6 overall and 13-3 in NEWMAC play.
  • Emerson and Smith split last season's series with each team grabbing wins on its home hardwood.
  • Lauren Bondi, the current NEWMAC Offensive Player of the Week, anchors the Pioneers in categories on both ends including points per game (18.7), three-point percentage (50.9%), 1.7 steals and 3.4 assists. 
  • The reigning NEWMAC Co-Player of the Year in Kennedy Guest-Pritchett has racked up 11.3 points per game, followed by a shot percentage of 61.0% by Katelyn Pickunka and .9 blocks by Stephanie Foukaris.
