BOSTON - As the Emerson Lions softball team looks forward to the playoffs, they are receiving votes in the NCAA Division III regional poll. The poll takes into account all teams from the New England region and features the NEWMAC conference heavily. Emerson is ranked seventh in the poll, in front of Springfield and Coast Guard, who are ranked ninth and tenth respectively. MIT and WPI are ranked No. 1 and No. 5 respectively, and the Lions took splits from both teams earlier in the season. The Lions have a 20-12 overall record and earned their first NEWMAC playoff berth since joining the conference with an 8-10 conference record. The team is gearing up for the playoffs now, as they have two non-conference doubleheaders in the upcoming weekend. They will travel to take on Suffolk on Saturday, starting at 12:00pm before welcoming Plymouth St. to Rotch Field for a final tune up before they take on Babson in the NEWMAC Championships. Emerson split a doubleheader at Rotch Field earlier in the season with the Beavers, and they are currently ranked one spot ahead of the Lions at No. 6 in the New England poll.
