The Lead: Neely Eddleston pitched  ano-hitter in the second game of the doubleheader to help the Lions to a sweep of NEWMAC opponents Smith. 

GAME ONE

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • The Lions outhit their opponents 14-9 and outscored them 9-8.
  • Marisa DeFranco (Falls Church, Va.) earned her first victory of the season in relief for the Lions.
  • DeFranco  pitched two scoreless innings and only allowed two hits while striking out one batter.
  • Six of the Lions 14 hits were doubles.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • In an action packed first inning, the Pioneers grabbed four runs in the top of the frame, capped off by a Rowan Turner double which plated two Pioneers.
  • The Lions fought back in the bottom of the frame, starting with a Jacqueline DeFusco (East Greenwich, R.I.) double which brought home Lindsey Lowe.
  • A Jillian Gearin (Hermosa Beach, Calif.) singled brought home Defusco which was followed by an Alena Jones (Woodinville, Wa.) double, plating Maddie Tomich (Lithia, Fla.).
  • The Lions claimed their first lead of the game two innings later when Jones hit her second double of the game which brought home Tomich and Kallista Leonardos (El Granada, Calif.) to make the score 5-4 Lions.
  • A Caroline Fortuna (Higganum, Conn.) single brought home Jones and extended the Lions lead to 6-4.
  • Smith rallied to score three runs in the top of the fifth inning and take the lead back at 7-6. 
  • The Pioneers tacked another run on in the top of the sixth and opened up a two run lead at 8-6.
  • In the bottom of the sixth, Leonardos doubled to bring home DeFusco.
  • With two outs in the bottom of the seventh, Lindsey Lowe smacked a single to right center field which scored Micaela Dix (White House Station, N.J.) and Molly Goldstein giving the Lions the victory at 9-8.

GAME TWO

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Neely Eddleston pitched a no hitter in five innings and only allowed one base runner.
  • The Lions Outscored the Pioneers 8-0 in five innings.
  • Jacqueline DeFusco hit a solo home run to left center field.
  • Eddleston earned her eleventh victory of the year.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Lions grabbed the lead early when the second batter of the game, Jacqueline DeFusco, hit a solo home run to center field.
  • The Lions tacked on three more runs in the bottom of the third when DeFusco doubled to right center scoring Caroline Fortuna
  • The Lions scored two more runs in the inning to open up a 4-0 lead after three innings.
  • In the bottom of the fourth Lindsey Lowe brought home Micaela Dix and a double steal by Lowe brought home DeFusco, opening up a 6-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth.
  • A Molly Goldstein bloop single to right field scored Tomich in the next inning.
  • A double brought home one run and a passed ball allowed the Lions to take a 8-0 lead which invoked the eight-run rule.
