The Lead: The Lions extended their winning streak tos tart the season in FLorida to six games with victories over St. Joseph's (Me.) and Alfred.

Game One (vs. St. Joseph's)

BY THE NUMBERS

  • Marisa DeFranco led all batters with four singles, driving in two runs on her final hit of the game. DeFranco also scored one run.
  • Alena Jones followed up DeFranco with three hits of her own, also driving in two runs while scoring one. 
  • Emerson outhit the Monks 15-6.
  • Maddie Tomich hit her first home run of her collegiate career, driving in two runs.
  • Neely Eddleston earned the win for the Lions, pitching five innings, allowing six hits, one earned run, and striking out two batters.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Lions struck first in the top of the first inning, when Marisa DeFranco scored on a pop up by Jacqueline DeFusco.
  • In the bottom half of the first, the Monks scored their lone runs when Meghan Elliot doubled, driving in a run.  Elliot then scored on an error by the Lions.
  • The score stayed the same until the top of the fourth inning, when Maddie Tomic hit her first home run of the season, playing Micaela Dix, and giving the Lions the lead back at 3-2.
  • The Lions broke the score open in the next inning, scoring eight more runs in the top of the fifth.
  • Jillian Gearin started the inning with an RBI single, scoring Alena Jones.
  • Molly Goldstein singled next, scoring two more runs for the Lions.
  • Marisa DeFranco notchd her fourth hit of the afternoon, plating Goldstein and Maddie Tomich.
  • After a Kallista Leonardos RBI double, Alena Jones singled, driving in two more runs for the Lions, bringing the score to 11-2.
  • Neely Eddleston closed theme out in the bottom of the fifth inning, giving the Lions their fifth win in a row.

Game Two (vs. Alfred)

BY THE NUMBERS

  • Casey Tsamis pitched 7 1/3 innings for the lions, scattering eight hits and allowing one run that was unearned.
  • Neely Eddleston earned the win for the Lions, closing out the game in the top of the eighth inning, pitching to two batters. 
  • The Lions managed six hits over eight innings, but outscored Alfred 2-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Lions and Saxons were stuck in a pitchers duel until the fifth inning.
  • In the bottom of the fifth inning, Kallista Leonardos hit a homer down the right field line, giving the Lions a 1-0 lead.
  • The Saxons tied the game on an error in the top of the sixth inning.
  • The game went extra innings, where the Lions came out on top.
  • Jacqueline DeFusco reached first on a fielder's choice, but an error by the Saxons allowed Lindsey Lowe to score, giving the Lions the win at 2-1 in eight innings.
