DARTMOUTH, Mass. - The Lions women's cross country team finished 30th while the men's side came out with a 31st place finish in their first meet of the season at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
The top finisher for the women's team was freshman Madison Lynch, who finished her 5k in 20:32.7, averaging a 6:36.7 mile. Senior Nina DeSilva (Edwardsville, Penn.) and sophomore Jeanette Mooney (Waterford, Conn.) finished within five seconds of each other, running 21:33.0 and 21:37.2, respectively.
For the men, freshman Joseph MacNeil finished with the best time for the Lions, finishing the 8k race in 28:48.8, averaging a 5:47.8 mile. Junior Ethan Michaud (Hudson, N.H.) finished the course in 30:24.6 while Anthony Zambino finished with a time of 30:39.2. Michael Cerullo and Owen Murray finished nearly simultaneously with times of 31:50.1 and 32:50.6, respectively.
Both teams take a week off before returning to racing on Sept. 23 at Gordon College.
